| Background | Infection by thermophilic Campylobacter species is a leading cause of human gastroenteritis. Of the various species of Campylobacter, C. jejuni, C. coli and C. lari, are the species most often associated with human illness. Campylobacter are often passed to humans through the handling or consumption of contaminated food, particularly foods of animal origin. Recently, human infection with Campylobacter has been implicated in the induction of Guillain- Barr A Syndrome (GBS) and reactive arthritis. GBS is a debilitating and potentially fatal neurological disease that produces paralysis. |
| Assay principle | The Diagnostic Automation, Campylobacter ELISA is a double antibody (sandwich) ELISA utilizing specific anti-Campylobacter antibodies coated to microwells. Cultivation of thermophilic Campylobacter species from foods involves multiple media steps, and thus many days. The Diagnostic Automation, Campylobacter Microwell ELISA test kit allows rapid testing (less than an hour) of the enrichment broth, thus eliminating the need for the plating and identification steps used in the standard methods. |

Materials Provided with Campylobacter Antigen in food Elisa Kit:
1. Microwell test strips containing anti-Campylobacter polyclonal antibodies: 96 Test wells
2. Test strip holder
3. Enzyme Conjugate: containing peroxidase conjugated anti-Campylobacter polyclonal antibody
4. Positive control: containing 2 ml of Campylobacter antigen in a buffered base
5. Negative control:containing 2 ml of buffered base
6. Chromogen: containing 11 ml of chromogen tetramethylbenzidine (TMB)
7. Wash Concentrate 20x: containing concentrated buffer and surfactant
8. Stop solution: containing 1 M phosphoric acid
Materials required, not provided:
1. Freshly distilled or deionized water
2. Dispensing system and/or pipette
3. EIA kit Microplate washer
4. EIA kit Microplate Reader with 450/620-650 nm wavelength
